It was a dark and stormy night.

No wait. It wasn’t.

It was a bright and sunny morning in the month of March during the long and cold Canadian winter of 2014.

I had spent most of the winter unpacking, sorting, cleaning and repacking stuff I had collected over the past 20 years in preparation for sending to auction at the end of February. Not an easy or fun task—but a good one, although once completed, I found myself totally exhausted.

But that’s not what I want to tell you about. I want to tell you about what happened after I got it all sorted, packed and sent off to auction.

What happened was, I decided to take a small winter get-away in Huntsville, Ontario, which is about 2 1/2 hours away from my home.

I decided to stay in a B&B and hoped to unwind, rest and relax.

Now I must tell you that Huntsville has a lot of lovely bed and breakfast establishments. I liked them all and had a hard time deciding where I would stay. So I picked one, then emailed the owners and booked my reservation.

However, after a few hours had passed I got impatient waiting for the email reply, so I picked up the phone and called to confirm my reservation and make the requisite credit card deposit. I had a lovely chat with the owner on the phone and was happy and excited about my upcoming adventure.

After our telephone conversation I emailed the owner confirming my reservation and mentioned that “it was nice talking to you on the phone earlier today.”

A few minutes later I got a frantic email reply saying: I didn’t talk to you on the phone today. I was out of town and just got back now.

Now what!

I went back to the B&B Canada website and started going through the list. I simply had no idea who I had phoned and given my credit card information to, as I really did like all the B&Bs listed for Huntsville and the surrounding area and couldn’t remember which one I had picked.

After sending off a tersely worded ‘would you mind confirming this reservation again, please’ to several B&Bs, I finally received the confirmation I was looking for, much to my relief.

So I apologized to the owner of the ‘wrong’ B&B, confirmed the reservation with the ‘right’ B&B and off I went next day for my mid-winter excursion.

You want to know the reason I’m telling you this story?

It’s because I am always amazed at how the Lord provides for me, despite my often goofy and/or bungling ways.

When I arrived at my new-found destination, I was thrilled. The place was so lovely, even lovelier than the pictures on the owner’s website. The host and hostess were gracious, born-again Christians and their home truly did exude a sense of peace, tranquility and God’s presence.

Only the Lord could have known how much I needed to be at a place such as this. Judy and Dan are faithful servants of the Lord and as gracious hosts, I was so blessed by my brief, but restful (and restorative) stay at their lovely home.

I was so thankful for His provisions, which truly were “exceedingly, abundantly above AND beyond ALL that I could have thought possible or asked for.”

And once again it was confirmed to me that:

“A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.”

Thank you, Judy and Dan, for your provisions and for being there so that the Lord could direct me to your tranquil wood’s bed and breakfast for some much-needed fellowship and rest!
